“Music with a social sense”
Meliza Metzger Gómez is a coloratura soprano from Pamplona, Colombia based in London with UK Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Described as a singer of "rare communicative sophistication," she brings a warm, agile instrument to the demanding heroines of Mozart and the French repertoire, praised for her "impressive top" and "excellent runs, like an instrument."
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, Meliza was an Emerging Artist with Greenwich Opera, where she performed the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte. Her recent engagements include Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Three Bridges Festival in Scotland, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas at Bogotá's Teatro Colón, and covering Adele in Die Fledermaus with St Paul's Opera in London. Her artistic passion, however, lies in championing rarely heard works. She is currently developing a personal project centered on Mozart's teenage virtuosity, preparing the roles of Fauno in “Ascanio in Alba” and Ismene in “Mitridate, re di Ponto”.
On the concert platform, Meliza has been a soloist in Mozart's Exultate Jubilate, Handel's Messiah, Bach's Magnificat, and Bernstein's Mass. A keen recitalist, she performs internationally with the Solent Duo (guitar and voice), with whom she has released a CD and appeared at Festival Lent in Slovenia and Imago Sloveniae. Her latest recital series includes the Brentano Lieder Op. 68 by Richard Strauss and musical parallels to Mozart's concert arias for coloratura soprano.
Beyond performance, Meliza believes artists must be committed not only to their own development but also to building channels to help communities through music. While at the Royal Academy of Music, she took part in community projects with the Open Academy, working with primary schools and care homes across London.
She leads the "Classical Forest" series of talks and recitals in London, has lectured on opera for the University of the Third Age, and has completed the National Opera Studio's course Delivering Opera in Community Settings. “My goal is to become a helpful actor in the use of music as a powerful tool to transform a society”
Fluent in five languages—French (C1 DELF), Spanish (native), English, Italian, and Norwegian—Meliza brings rare linguistic authenticity to the stage. Beyond her musical studies, she holds a diploma in Italian Cultural Studies and Language . She has participated in masterclasses with Caroline Wettergreen, Hamida Kristoffersen, Susan Bullock, Christopher Purves, Victoria Livengood, Damien Guillon, Lorraine Nubar, Giulio Zappa, Margreet Honig, Luciana Serra, and Dalton Baldwin.
Meliza is deeply grateful for the continuous support of Help Musicians, being part of their Co-Pilot: the Musicians’ Mentoring Network, their skills and professional development scheme as well as the British Association for Performance Arts Medicine for their outstanding help to young musicians physical and mental health.
